Other noted bandmasters who assisted in Germany's band reforms were: Kiiffner (1776-1856), Neithardt(1793-1861) and Faust (1825-92). Belgium too was caught in the tide of band reform. In 1846 a government commission was appointed to reorganise military bands, under Servais, of the Brussels Conservatoire. Their most famous military band was the " Guides" under Valentin Bender (1802-73), which was considered worthy of special mention by Kastner in his "Manuel General de Musique Militaire," 1848. I append a list of this band at this period (1848): In the Netherlands there had been a normal school for bandmasters since the beginning of the century, which since 1828 had been controlled by Joseph Snel (1793-1861).
